Volleyball wins three straight against Cañada

De Anza women’ s volleyball dominated Cañada college with a straight three set win, Oct 24. Cañada couldn’t defend itself against De Anza’s overpowering defense.
Outside hitter and middle blocker Katherine Ja jumped to strike the ball down several times in the first set.
“I make sure to get there on time, and spot the ball early,” Ja said. The first set ended with the score of 25-9.
The major plays of the second set were Jenny Tran and outside hitter and defensive specialist Ida Rivera each scoring four points in a row with their serve; ending at 25-6.
Eric Benjamin, a student and fan at De Anza said, “It’s a blow-out game. Cañada is a new team, and De Anza has lots of veteran players.”
De Anza was well prepared for their opponents plays. Michelle Deemer, middle blocker, “acted as a wall,” teammate Katherine Ja said. “She didn’t let anything get passed her.”
DeAnza kept its opponents’ score under 10 points for every set throughout the game.
“I’m very pleased about the outcome,” said coach Dawnis Guevara “They did very well and they didn’t let up.”
Setter Alyssa Tarrant scored the final point with a serve ending the third set and game at 25-8.
