Dons lose in matchup with Foothill Owls 4-1

De Anza Women’s soccer lost 4-1 against longtime rival team Foothill college on Oct. 23.

Team captain Taryn Phillips scored a goal for DeAnza with the help of  Lataroma Comesana. “She was dribbling, and I was making a run on the ball,” Phillips said. “I saw a gap. I had her pass it through, and I ran onto it. I one touched it right around the goalie, and it went in.” Phillips gave the play by play. Comesana blocked a pass against Foothill with a jumping front header, and ended the first half with Foothill ahead 2-1.

During the second half, Coach Andrew Ransome was heard from the sideline encouraging players “face up, let’s do it again.” De Anza players and fans were anxious for a comeback.

Foothill kept De Anza’s territory busy with shots to goalie Natalie Campos. “It was pretty intense,” Campos said. “We had to stay mentally prepared, and I had to stay in the game.”

At  the end of the last half. Comesana stole the ball and ran it near Foothill’s goal zone. She went for the shot, but it wasn’t enough. It was blocked by Foothills goal keeper; ending the game at 4-1.

“I liked our fighting spirit” head coach Cheryl Owiesny said. “I  don’t think the score reï¬ects how we played.”
