The Inter Club Council at De Anza College has elected new representatives for the upcoming year. A new ICC Chairperson, Chair of Finance and Chair of Programs were chosen, along with the introduction of a new position : ICC Chair of Marketing.
The new chair position was created to fill a void that was missing in the ICC. “We felt that we needed to promote the Inter Club Council by adding a Chair of Marketing. We think that by having an additional officer we can have someone be in charge of promoting the over 60 clubs that we have on campus, ” ICC Adviser La Donna Yumori-Kaku said. “We want to have students be more involved on campus.”
“The Inter Club Council works closely with the DASB Senate, particularly the Diversity and Events Committee,” former DASB Chair of Diversity and Events Lena Ghamrawi said. “Both promote student involvement on campus.”
ICC Chair of Finance Dickson Ho plans on bringing hard work and positivity to the ICC. Before serving as Chair of Finance, Ho was active in the clubs Hong Kong Student Association, Sunshine Success Club and Four Elements of Hip Hop. As the ICC Chair of Finance, Ho handles all financial matters including transferring funds, providing club budgets and dealing with inactive clubs.
ICC Chairperson Ryan Choy got involved in ICC after watching his friends do the same. “It is actually my first year in De Anza College. I was an ICC rep before (for a club). I saw Trish, Dora and Alan did so well. I admire their spirit and passion for serving our school,” he said. I do think it is important for us to treasure everything here and take action to do something for our school if we have any chances, so I decided to run for the office.”
ICC Chair of Programs Matt Diaz had a similar story. “It was an opportunity to get more involved with campus life, and I also received a lot of encouragement from Dhoreena, the previous Chair of Programs, so it just made sense to give it a shot and go for it.”
“For the ICC overall, we hope to be able to bolster the collaboration efforts between the various clubs on campus, as well as creating a more efficient system of communication between the clubs and the ICC,” Diaz said. “For me, as Chair of Programs, I’m looking to bring more diverse entertainment and events to De Anza, as well as doing my absolute best to make De Anza a hotspot for everyone to hang out and have fun.”
The ICC meets every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Student Council Chambers.
