Dons’ season-long slump
May 3, 2016
2016 was a rough year for the De Anza softball team as they opened the season with a 19 game losing streak.
It wasn’t until game 20 that the Dons were able to get themselves in the win column. They won back-to-back games in a doubleheader match against Mendocino College.
The first game was a convincing victory shutting Mendocino out 10-0. The second game was a little more interesting but the Dons were still able to win 18-11.
Unfortunately those would be the only two games De Anza would win this season as they lost the remainder of their games.
De Anza’s women softball team lost 13 of their home games which means they dropped every game they played at home.
In five of their 23 games this season the Dons only scored one run, and in seven of those 23 the Dons were shutout.
Making most of there loses convincing defeats. The team struggled all season with earned runs, only earning 70 the whole season.
In the 25 loses the team suffered this season they were only able to tally 42 runs. While in their two wins in the season they were able to attain more than half of the amount of runs scoring 28.
Mistakes ultimately plagued the Dons all year having a total of 55 errors throughout the season.
Head coach Megan Kravets wrapped up her first year on the Dons coaching staff and was unavailable for comment.
