The most memorable photo

Photos hold stories, and stories should be told.
We asked De Anza students to show us their most memorable photo they keep on their phones. Some of them shared the memories these photos evoke in them.

I was supposed to hang myself last year, and it was very hard because I had to change a lot, like telling my parents. They became more lenient and put more attention on me, which felt weird because I’ve been extremely private for all my life. And I thought I survived. Like, everything is different now, but I’m okay. I guess.
I don’t know why it’s a butterfly. I think I looked up suicide awareness and people usually put butterflies on their wrist, and I said that was lame so I just drew it in my backyard. Then I found out I got evicted from that house, but the drawing is still there.
I’ve always hated papaya my entire life, and I knew this. On the other hand, I’ve found some of the more worthwhile things I’ve done in my life have challenged what I knew. I decided to give papaya another try. I still hate it, but I can say I tried. It won’t be the last time.
This was from the first day I realized consciousness is an illusion. I let go of my free will and the universe took over my body. All I could do now was observe. Then, my atoms told me I should stop conforming to gender norms. So I put this bra on my head and was a changed man.
