Student retention increased at De Anza College during this quarter. The number of students who enrolled in the fall quarter for on-campus classes was increased by approximately 2 percent from fall quarter, according to an e-mail De Anza President Brian Murphy sent to De Anza faculty. Student retention refers to the number of students who remain enrolled in classes for a full quarter and students who enroll again for the following quarter. Murphy said in an e-mail that he credits faculty and staff for increasing enrollment because they implemented strategies discussed on opening day, such as providing students with financial aid guidance, giving directions on campus and other “myriad small gestures.”
