The weekly Senate meeting was held on Wednesday November 1 from 4:30p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The meeting was initiated by a round of public comments. It was proposed that it was not mandatory for junior senators to participate in external committee due to surplus of junior senators and that it was not compulsory for senators to do so. This amendment would be discussed in detail in meeting on Monday 6th November at 4 p.m. A suggestion was also put forward to revise the senator election process that prospective senators could not, from now on, bypass and go straight to be elected as a senator. A side issue popped up – Tony Suen was excused from all the meetings from 1st November to 14th November due to emergency and personal reason. This was approved by Tiffany T. and Samuel Y. As a senator was resigned, there was one vacancy for junior senators to compete for. Junior senators, Azusa N., Reetika and Franci N, each performed a short speech about their dedication and goals and were asked five questions. However, the senators felt that they were not well-prepared and experienced to face the challenges of being a senator. On the other hand, a prospective senator was successfully promoted to be a junior senator through her powerful speech, dedication to the students and DeAnza as well as a strong sense of responsibility. This was followed by reports on activities from different branches. The marketing department suggested and planned to announce and distribute the new logos of DASB because it seemed that many students had not yet recognized the change and the library was still using the old DASB logo on its web page. The student services department was working on scholarships provided for bright students. They made flyers and posters. Moreover, the student rights department planned to promote the suggestion boxes on 16th November through a wide range of activities such as distributing candies. In addition, the budget and finance department dealt with issues related to travel money and Halloween carnival. 16th November was assigned to be the Student Service Date. All committees would take part and recruit new members. The meeting was rounded up by the appreciation section where senators and junior senators gave their vote of thanks to Inter Club Council, the Chairperson of the Senate, the helpers in the Halloween Carnival and all the members for good attendance and communication.
