De Anza College will hold a town hall meeting Tuesday to discuss next year’s proposed state budget.
The meeting will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Conference Room B in the Hinson Campus Center.
According to the Foothill- De Anza Community College District Web site, the governor’s proposal would increase current community college funding by 11.6 percent.
In addition, according to a report in last week’s Cupertino Courier, the proposal would add $1.3 million to the district in equalization funding. Proposition 13, which limited property taxes, left California community college districts with unequal funding.
Currently, the discrepancy among districts ranges from $3,500 to $8,100 per full-time student. Foothill- De Anza is currently allotted $3,717 per student.
The equalization funding would bring the district’s funding up to the statewide average of $4,100, according to the Cupertino Courier. This article appears in the Feb. 6, 2006 print edition of La Voz.
