Bad Bunny “hops out” with surprise album, “La Que No Iban a Salir” to brighten our shelter-in-place

On May 10, Bad Bunny released a surprise album titled “Las Que No Iban a Salir,” which translates to “The ones that weren’t going to be released,” proving he has no plans on stopping any time soon, quarantine or not.
The album contains 10 tracks which include full length versions of previously teased snippets that were unreleased due to the pandemic.
It is easy to listen to, has a couple of upbeat dance tracks, and to me feels like one of those albums you can play while doing anything\; homework, driving, cleaning, etc.
“Las Que No Iban a Salir” could be considered a short epilogue to “YGLQMDLG,” his previous album. The album kicks off with my personal favorite, yet another party anthem for women entitled “Si Ella Sale,” which in this context translates to “if she goes out.”
It is a track that lays out all the dirty, crazy details of a “girl’s night out.”
I felt both personally attacked by the accuracy of this song, and crushed because Bad Bunny insists on releasing the perfect club songs knowing good and well there are no clubs to attend.
The album also contains more noteworthy collaborations as did “YHLQMDLG,” such as Nicky Jam, Yandel, Zion, Lennox, Jhay Cortez-all heavy hitters in the current reggaeton scene.
The most surprising collaboration features Bad Bunny’s girlfriend Gabriela Berlingeri in the song “En Casita.”
This song has a light, upbeat feel to it detailing the boredom and irritation of sheltering in place and is perfectly complemented by Gabriela’s simple, sweet vocals.
Despite my jealousy of Miss Gabriela claiming the coveted spot I already had in my head as Bad Bunny’s girlfriend, this is my second favorite track on the album.
It gives a glimpse into Bad Bunny’s life and the ability he has to make art that reflects reality while it pokes fun at it.
Bad Bunny rewarded his fans by surprising us with something to lift our spirits and moods during the lockdown.
I rate this album a 7.5 out of 10 because of its shortness in length and my own personal likelihood of referring back to the album once the hype dies down.
I thoroughly enjoyed the album, I just didn’t experience the same impact I had with “YHLQMDLG.”
With that being said, I still do recommend everyone giving it a listen.
But please if you do, make sure to “perrear” properly, the way Bad Bunny intended.
