Despite being home schooled for eight years, Naeema Kaleem has developed her social skills through participation on De Anza’s campus.

Kaleem, 18, is a double major in political science and communications.

During her four quarters at De Anza, she contribut- ed to multiple on-campus clubs and organizations. She also holds a regional position in the Student Senate for California Community Colleges.

In the summer of 2014, Kaleem began interning for the DASB Senate. She is now the legislative affairs officer.

“I want the DASB Senate to be a secure platform where students can come and voice their opinions and concerns,” Kaleem said.

“Not only that, but for the senate to actively listen and act upon those concerns.”

If elected vice president, she said she wants to focus on equity issues and food bank scholarships that include healthy food options.

Thy Doan said she wants a better, more united De Anza College.

The 19-year-old psychology major currently holds DASB Senate positions as vice chair of diversity and vice chair of the events committee.

“Here at De Anza, the majority of students are internationals and immigrants,” Doan said. “Let’s bridge the gap…”

Coming from immigrant parents, Doan said that she notices the lack of resources offered to international students, which decreases their graduation and transfer rates.

She said she hopes to offer affordable and healthier food services to students and advocate for international and residential student counselors.

“There are a lot of resources and opportunities out there that a lot of students don’t know about,” Doan said. “I want to introduce high level internship programs to every student at De Anza.”
