The Outdoor Club welcomes all people who are adventurous and have an appreciation for nature. This club hosts a wide range of outdoor activities for De Anza students, faculty, and staff.

It provides the opportunity for its members to partake in activities like camping, snow camping,  skiing, canoeing, hiking, kayaking, surfing, paintballing, backpacking, and horseback riding, as well as other outdoor activities and volunteering opportunities.

However, students who are beginners in any of these activies should not be discouraged from joining.  Peter Ye, VP of the Outdoor Club, encourages students who  are interested to “give it a try, because you don’t know what it’s like until you do.”

In fact, the Outdoor Club specializes in hosting trips for beginners, and even provides lessons for most activities from experienced club members and professional instructors for newcomers.

The Outdoor Club also provides its members with the convenience of pre-planned events, without the hassle of obtaining permits, setting up carpool, or coordinating events.  All club events are open to everyone and are not limited to only club members, however, becoming a member has its advantages.

Members of the Outdoor Club have the benefit of receiving discounted prices on all equipment rentals, as well as paying lower prices on all club events.  Membership only costs $15 for the entire year, which covers equipment rental fees and is a better deal compared to the prices of other rental companies.

According to Ye, some of the Outdoor Club’s main events for this year are snow camping in Yosemite Valley and camping at Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming.

The club’s first event of the academic year will be paintballing on Saturday, Oct. 24.  Students, faculty, and staff who are interested in signing up for this event or learning more information about the Outdoor Club are welcome to attend any of their meetings.

For more information, visit their table at Club Day this Thursday, e-mail them at [email protected] or go to their website which can be found on the ICC Club website: www.deanza.edu/clubs under Outdoor Club.

Club members hang ten on the beach before trying their boards out on sea.

Club member, Mary Anne Osburn, peeks out of her tent to find two feet of snow has fallen during the Yosemite snow camp.
