Disneyland way, way too expensive

Disneyland way, way too expensive

The happiest place on earth just got a little less happy. Disneyland’s high ticket prices went up again driving the total cost of the trip into an unrealistic price range.

A one day ticket to either Disneyland or California Adventure costs $96, $4 more than before. If you want to get a one-day park hopper pass it’ll set you back $150, a $13 increase.

This may not seem like much, but when you think about it, that’s just to get into the park. Once you’re in, you have to pay for food, drinks, and if you have kids with you there’s a very good chance they’re going to want crazy expensive souvenirs.

Based on these prices, it will cost a family of four $384 just to get into either Disneyland or California Adventure for one day. A set of park hopper passes will cost $600. None of this includes the money needed for a hotel room or food.

Once you’re in either park you have to spend the majority of your time standing in crowded lines. I went to Disneyland in January with my parents and waited over an hour to get on Space Mountain. To get on Indiana Jones, we waited nearly two and a half hours.

It’s just ridiculous.

They do have fast passes, but they’re not really efficient because they give you a card with a time to come back and it’s usually way later in the day. You’re left waiting around until you can go back and get on the ride.

With all the time wasted standing around in line, there’s basically no way to be able to enjoy both theme parks in one day. One-day park hopper passes are a joke.

Rooms at hotels neighboring Disneyland can go for up to $200 a night. So now you’re adding that to the $384 to $600 price of tickets and you haven’t even figured in the cost of gas or airfare and food.

If you get the one-day park hopper passes for your family of four and stay one night in a hotel by the park, you’re looking at spending around $800 plus the cost of food and travel.

It’s just not worth it.

Once you factor in all the expenses you could easily spend $1,000 or more for one day at Disneyland. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s crazy.

With that money you could buy a good laptop, go to several concerts, pay off some bills or, if you’re into gambling, you could go to Reno or Las Vegas.

You could even put it towards a down payment on a car.

The bottom line is, Disneyland prices are outrageous and there are a number of better things you could spend your hard-earned money on.
