De Anza College students dodge stress with dodgeball

A dodgeball tournament at De Anza College to help students relax before finals sounds unlikely, but it actually happened.

The DASB Senate hosted its first dodgeball tournament on campus in the gym on Friday, June 5.

Helen Fu, 19, psychology major, attended the event and was a part of Team Hello.

“The dodgeball event definitely helped me release some stress,” Fu said. “The team bond helped us communicate during the dodgeball game.”

Although Fu had a positive experience and thought that it helped her relieve stress, one of her teammates had a slightly different experience.

Nero Chen, 21, business major, also a member of Team Hello, had one win and one loss throughout the tournament.

“The rules were unclear and there were some arguments during the matches,” Chen said. He said he hopes next time the rules will be more clear, but he still had fun.

“People were having fun no matter the players or the audience,” Chen said. Clearly the event was helping everyone relax a little and forget about the stress of finals approaching.

The DASB enlisted the help of Moveable Feast food trucks to feed the students. Students could take a quick stroll over to the food trucks and purchase food from local vendors.

Josh Rodriguez, 19, film major, said he is a dodgeball lover.

“It should be held on a day where most of the students are on campus,” Rodriguez said. “like any other day of the week but Friday.”

If you were unable to attend this year, keep an eye out for the invite next time.
